> 1 satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC, and 1 litoshi is 0.00000001 LTC. Type any amount of sats or litoshis to see it in coins and US dollars at today's price.

## What is a satoshi?

A **satoshi** (sat) is the smallest unit of Bitcoin: **1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats**, so 1 sat = 0.00000001 BTC. It is named after Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Small amounts — faucet rewards, Lightning payments, network fees — are usually counted in sats because "2,500 sats" is easier to read than "0.000025 BTC".

Litecoin works the same way: the smallest unit is often called a **litoshi**, and **1 LTC = 100,000,000 litoshis**.

## How the converter works

- **Coins** = sats ÷ 100,000,000
- **USD value** = coins × live price of 1 coin
- **Sats for a dollar amount** = dollars ÷ price × 100,000,000

The live price comes from the public CoinGecko feed and is requested by your browser. Nothing you type is stored.

## Quick reference

| 100,000 | 0.001 |
| 1,000,000 | 0.01 |
| 100,000,000 | 1 |

## FAQ

### How many sats are in 1 Bitcoin?

Exactly 100,000,000 (one hundred million). The number never changes — only the dollar value of a sat moves with the Bitcoin price.

### How much is 1,000 sats in USD?

1,000 sats = 0.00001 BTC. Multiply by the current Bitcoin price: at $84,000 per BTC that is $0.84. Use the converter above for today's exact value.

### Why do network fees use sats per byte?

Bitcoin fees depend on how much space a transaction uses in a block, so wallets show the fee rate in sats per virtual byte (sat/vB). A higher rate usually confirms faster.

### How many satoshis are in 1 Bitcoin?

100,000,000 satoshis = 1 BTC. One satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC.

### How much is a faucet reward in sats worth?
