## How the calculator works

It uses the same formulas explained in [how to calculate crypto profit](/learn/how-to-calculate-crypto-profit/):

- **Coins** = investment × (1 − buy fee) ÷ buy price
- **Proceeds** = coins × sell price × (1 − sell fee)
- **Profit** = proceeds − investment
- **ROI** = profit ÷ investment × 100
- **Break-even price** = buy price ÷ ((1 − buy fee) × (1 − sell fee))

## Tips for accurate results

- Use the fee your exchange really charges: order-book trades are often 0.1%–0.5%, instant card purchases 1%–4%.
- If you moved coins between wallets, add network fees to your investment.
- Prices are in whatever currency you type — keep buy and sell price in the same one.

### Does it work for Bitcoin, Litecoin and other coins?

Yes. The math is the same for any coin or token: only the prices and fees change.

### Why does the break-even price differ from my buy price?

Because you pay a fee when you buy and again when you sell. The coin price must rise enough to cover both before you make a profit.

### Can I calculate a loss?

Yes. If the sell price is below break-even, profit and ROI are shown as negative numbers.

### How do I calculate crypto profit with fees?

Profit = (sell price × coins) − sell fee − (buy price × coins) − buy fee. The calculator does this for you and shows the break-even price that covers both fees.

### Can I use it for free crypto I earned?

Yes. Set the buy price to 0 for coins you got for free (faucets, challenges, rewards) to see what they are worth when sold.
